A Muslim youth and his Hindu woman friend were allegedly confronted, questioned about their identities, and assaulted by a group of men while eating at a local market. The incident, captured on video, has triggered widespread outrage. Police have since registered an FIR under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched an investigation. As public pressure mounts, the incident raises uncomfortable questions about law enforcement, mob vigilantism, and citizens taking policing into their own hands. According to the complaint, the two had travelled to Muzaffarnagar to purchase medicine before stopping at a market for food.
