Cuban Coconut Yolks - Easy and Delicious Recipe | 🍰 More than Delicious Coconut is a fruit (drupe) obtained primarily from the tropical coconut tree (Cocos nucifera), the most widely cultivated palm tree in the world. It has a thick outer shell (exocarp) and a fibrous mesocarp, and a hard, fuzzy, brown inner shell (endocarp) to which the white, aromatic pulp (endosperm) adheres. It measures 20 to 30 cm and weighs up to 2.6 kg. The main product exported from the various growing areas is unprocessed copra, followed by desiccated coconut. In certain European countries, fresh coconut finds its best sale; the undisputed star of fairs and festivals and commonly used in many artisanal and industrial pastries. The most interesting market in Asia, Europe, and North America is for bottled coconut water; it is widely accepted and has increased demand every year. The name "coconut" comes from the Age of Discovery, as the Portuguese explorers who brought it to Europe found its brown, hairy surface with its three holes reminiscent of a face like the ghost in the stories about the Coco, told in Spain and Portugal to frighten small children. Origin The coconut's place of origin is a matter of debate. While many believe it originates from South Asia, specifically the Ganges Delta, some say it originates from northwestern South America. Fossil records from New Zealand indicate that similar, smaller plants grew there at least 15 million years ago.[citation needed] Older fossils have also been discovered in Kerala, Rajasthan, Thennai in Tamil Nadu on the banks of the Palar, Then-pennai, Thamirabharani, the Kaveri River, and slopes on the Kerala border, Konaseema-Andharapradesh, and Maharashtra (all in India), although the oldest known ones come from Khulna, Bangladesh.[citation needed] Coconuts are mentioned in the Sri Lankan poem Mahawamsa from the 2nd to 1st century BC. The later Culawamasa says that King Aggabodhi I (575–608) planted a coconut garden 3 yoyanas (about 25 km) long, probably the first recorded coconut plantation. ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Track: Next One — Roa [Audio Library Release] Music provided by Audio Library Plus Watch: • Next One — Roa | Free Background Music | ...
