Wintering in Florida - Beautiful Free Campground

Our second week in Florida is spent at a very beautiful and free campground waterside on the East Bay just east of Pensacola, FL. The facility is a Florida State Wildlife Management Area and they maintain a beautiful campground that requires a permit to camp but the permit is free and application is done online and emailed back to you. There are no hook ups or water, but there are outhouse toilets, picnic tables and trash receptacles. Sites are level and quite large. Identifying the sites by the post number can be difficult so it's best to check the numbers posted on each picnic table for positive identification. We were there the week of January 14th and pretty much had the place to ourselves especially during the day. A couple campers came in late in the day and were gone early the next morning. Night time temperatures were mostly in the 30s with several of them below freezing .... darn polar vortex ! Daytime highs were sometimes in the low to mid 40s with a couple in the mid 50s which felt warm due to the sunshine and relative contrast. I'm sure the place would have been more crowded had the weather been nicer :-)
