Flying in Alaska in the summertime is the best. I'm doing my seaplane training as a student pilot at Alaska Floats and Skis in Talkeetna, Alaska. It's been challenging and fun to do flight training again with my CFI and flight instructor Sarah. Float planes just fly a lot different than regular aircraft. Well, the flying is very similar, but the takeoffs and landings on floats are different in many ways. I do think it's pretty great we can do flying on all sorts of different surfaces. Just too cool! So far during my seaplane training and float rating we've done most of the basics like takeoff, landing, taxis of different kinds like plow taxi and step taxi, and now we're working on confined takeoffs and landings. Glassy water are some we've also been working on. I have my checkride in several days to get my float rating. Flying a seaplane in Alaska has been great fun, and I can't wait to get my float rating in soon as a commercial float pilot. Want to be a pilot?
