Primary biliary cholangitis is a chronic autoimmune cholestatic disease that affects the cells of the biliary epithelium, causing the destruction of small and medium-sized bile ducts. It is more common in women, and its global incidence is estimated to be between 1.7 and 14.6 per 100,000 inhabitants. In recent years, we have witnessed a renewal of scientific and pharmacological interest in this disease. New drugs have emerged with innovative mechanisms, increasingly robust trials, and, in some cases, with results that force us to rethink how we treat this disease.
