राजघाट पुल और काशी के पहले महाराजा | मालवीय पुल | DUFFERIN BRIDGE | HISTORY & DETAILS OF VARANASI

#Malviya #Bridge, inaugurated in 1887 (originally called The Dufferin Bridge), is a double decker bridge over the #Ganges at Varanasi. It carries rail track on lower deck and road on the upper deck. It is one of the major bridges on the Ganges and carries the #Grand Trunk Road across the river. It has 7 spans of 350 ft and 9 spans of 110 ft and it was the first bridge of its type constructed in the Indian sub-continent by the engineers of Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway (O&R Railway).The engineer in charge of construction of the #Dufferin Bridge was #Frederick Thomas Granville Walton, who went on to become the Engineer in Chief of the Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway company. The bridge was renamed as the Malviya Bridge in 1948 after Madan Mohan Malaviya. As the bridge is near #Rajghat, it is also locally known as Rajghat bridge. Malviya Bridge is between Kashi, Varanasi and Mughal Sarai stations. #धर्म #नगरी #वाराणसी में #विश्व का #पुरातन #शहर है। इस शहर में ढेरों #ऐतिहासिक #धरोहर हैं । ऐसी ही एक धरोहर वाराणसी के राजघाट इलाके में गंगा नदी में बना ऐतिहासिक #पुल है जिसका निर्माण #अग्रेजों ने कराया था। गंगा नदी को पार करने के लिए अंग्रेजों द्वारा 130 साल पहले इस पुल को बनवाया था। #भारतीय उप #महाद्वीप का ये #पहला पुल है। जिसके ऊपर सड़क मार्ग तो नीचे रेलवे मार्ग है। #इतिहास के पन्नों में इस पुल का नाम डफरिन पुल के नाम से दर्ज है।   #गंगा की छाती पर शान से खड़ा यह पुल 1 अक्टूबर 1887 में जब पहली बार सिंगल रेल लाइन और पैदल पथ के लिए खोला गया तो यह डफरिन पुल के नाम से जाना जाता था। #आज़ादी के बाद 5 दिसंबर 1947 को इस पुल का नाम बदलकर मालवीय पुल रख दिया गया। वाराणसी में लोग इसे राजघाट पुल के नाम से जानते हैं। इस पुल को अवैध और #रूहेलखंड के इंजीनियरों ने मिलकर बनाया था। जब तत्कालीन महराज बनारस  प्रसाद नारायण सिंह की उपस्थिति में इस पुल का उद्घाटन हुआ तो एक नई इबारत लिखी गयी। His Highness Maharaja Bahadur Sri Sir #Ishwari Prasad Narayan Singh, GCSI (1822-13 June 1889) succeeded his uncle upon the latter's death in 1835, becoming the first of his line to be granted the title of #Maharaja. Ascending the throne at the age of 13, during the Indian #Rebellion of 1857 he remained neutral to revolt. As a reward, he was promoted to the rank of Maharaja #Bahadur in 1859. In 1867, he was granted a personal 13-gun salute; a decade later he was knighted with the GCSI, becoming Sir Ishwari. He eventually became a member of the Viceroy's Legislative Council and in the crowning achievement of his reign, restored all the family lands that had been lost to them for over a century. Given the title of His Highness in 1889, H H Maharaja Sir Ishwari Prasad Narayan Singh died several months later, aged 67 and was succeeded by his nephew, #Prabhu Narayan Singh Sahib Bahadur.
