The main clinical indications for spectroscopy using single-voxel techniques are nonstructural lesions such as epilepsy, white matter lesions, or dementia; while the multi-voxel technique is useful in cases of larger, space-occupying lesions such as abscesses, tumors, and metastases, and is also used as a biopsy guide.
