Back then, Japanese motorcycles were already dominating the racetracks and streets, and since people love cruisers, why not make one of their own? The 1980s and 1990s saw an invasion of Japanese cruisers of all displacements. These machines didn't stand the test of time – there's no trace of them in contemporary Japanese manufacturers' offerings. Fortunately? Few motorcycles enjoy the same level of "disrepect" as the Yamaha 535 Virago. This model embodies everything Japanese cruisers in this class could offer: a modest 535cc displacement, a quirky silhouette, moderate performance, and the ability to accommodate an unlimited number of tacky extras. And most amazingly, the bike enjoyed immense popularity. Yamaha's invention quickly earned the reputation of a motorcycle for the "lone wolf," the "free spirit," and the "freerider." The Virago is a motorcycle that complements a peanut helmet, fingerless gloves, a leather vest and patches, saddlebags, fringes, foxtails, and so on – the list goes on. Rally culture owes much to this Yamaha model. Ultimately, the Virago is a rather interesting motorcycle, somewhat unfairly blamed for all the sins of Japanese cruisers. It's a charming machine for anyone who dreams of a Harley, but that dream didn't survive the clash with Polish realities. The Virago is a motorcycle with an interesting history and appealing lines, unfortunately often embellished with tacky accessories.
