Band had 3 hits & OPENED Live Aid in 1985 then Gone--10 years on had comeback #1 | Professor Of Rock

This is such a cool 80s story. The band the Hooters formed in 1980. they released an album independently and then took some time off when two of their principal members were hand picked to work on the 1984 blockbuster album Cyndi Lauper’s She’s So Unusual including helping with Girls Just Wanna have Fun and co-write the 1984 #1 hit Time After Time. Then they were signed by Columbia Records and released the 1985 2 X platinum album Nervous Night that had 3 big hits including the classic 80s anthem And We Danced plus Day by Day. They opened live aid and were killing it in 85 and 86 and then they disappeared out of the limelight in the US only to hit it big in europe and come back in the 90s writing another monumental hit One of Us for Joan Osborne. In an exclusive interview, principle members Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian tell the story next. It’s time for another edition of our show revelations where featured artists share rare stories behind their greatest songs and albums. Insight you won’t find anywhere else. today we are talking to the 2 principle member of a band who’s name has been deeply misunderstood. 80s band the Hooters were actually named after an instrument they used a lot in their band… the melodica. Not owls and definitely not the slang used for… well ya know… They had the name before the restaurant. Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian formed the band in 1980 and released their first album independently. Then they were handpicked to help with the creation of Cyndia Lauper’s classic record She’s So Unusual… they played a similar role to what the band toto did on michael Jackson thriller. They helped arrange her #2 hit Girls Just Wanna Have fun and Rob Hyman actually co-wrote time after time with Cyndi and actually sang on it as well. This gave the band momentum and they signed as a band to a Columbia records and released the double platinum album Nervous Night that had 3 top 40 hits, Where do the Children go that hit #38 and Day by Day that went to #18 and their signature song and today’s feature And We Danced . With a classic MTV video this song touched a chord with 80s kids with it’s singalong chorus and anthemic music. The band opened Live aid in 85 much to the chagrin of founder Bob Geldoff which they’ll explain next and then after their success waned they remade themselves… and had a big comeback. Up next the 2 principles tell us the story. now as we go into this interview. I want to thank our sponsor Zenni. the glasses I always wear. Zenni really lives up to their slogan.
