We were invited by the Wixárika (Huichol) community in Monte Escobedo to witness their ancestral deer hunt, a ritual steeped in symbolism, faith, and respect for nature. On this journey, you'll see everything from the dawn preparations with prayers and offerings to the fire, to the trek through the mountains where trackers and their dogs follow the trails of this sacred animal. You'll learn about the importance of the deer to their culture, its connection to corn and water, and how this tradition is a fundamental pillar of their identity.
