Kassé Mady Diabaté - 2 - LIVE at Afrikafestival Hertme 2015

Performance - 5 July 2015 Kassé Mady Diabaté is one of the best mature singers from Mali and is descended from the most famous griot family in the country, the Diabaté's from the village of Kéla. He has one of the most prominent voices in Mali. His career took off in the sixties booming as a member of renowned orchestras such as the Orchestre Régional Super Mande Kangaba, Las Maravillas and the Mali National Badema. In the decades hereafter the singer played a prominent role in the equally acclaimed world music albums, such as Songhai 2 and AfroCubism. Due to his modesty he never broke through to the general public, despite his 50-year career, while he should be recognised as similar in stature to Salif Keita. On the recently released album 'Kiriké' Kassé Mady returns to the classic, acoustic Malian tradition with a super quartet. He comes to Hertme with this 'royal cast'. His three companions are the famous kora virtuoso Ballaké Sissoko, balafon player Lansine Kouyaté and Badjé Tounkara on ngoni. The result is stunning contemporary Mandingo music in which the velvet voice of Kassé Mady fully comes into its own; music to dream away to on the Sunday morning in Hertme.
