Honda ATC 3 Wheeler Conversion Bike Build - Part 1
On this weeks episode I start building a monster trail bike out of a TRASHED 1978 Honda ATC90 Three Wheeler. This is just part 1 of the series. The thing really is the best trail bike I've ever ridden! Please click here to view the rest of the build videos!!! • Honda 3 Wheeler Conversion MONSTER TRAIL B... In this video we start out showing off the red 1983 Honda ATC110 Monster mini trail bike my dad built. This week I am going to start building mine. The 1978 ATC 90 was a barn find that was sitting dead in the water for over 30 years. The engine was locked up but we got it broken loose and after throwing on a rebuilt carburetor, we got it running. It smoked bad though but nothing a future engine rebuild can't fix. After I got it running I took it for a little test ride and found out I can't ride wheelies as good as I used to be able to as a kid. After the test ride, I went to town on the frame with a cut off wheel and a sawzall. The rear part of the frame had to be shortened to fit the custom swing arm and jack shaft. Lot's of fire and sparks were flying that day. I am sorry for chopping a vintage Honda motorcycle, but I promise I will restore many back to original condition in the future! After I chopped the frame, I boxed the frame in with some 1/4 plate steel I bent on the hydraulic press. I also welded on some reinforcements on the Honda frame. After the frame was chopped, I threw the gas tank and fenders and plastics back on the bike to see how it was going to look when finished. I ended up using a front suspension fork off of a Honda ATC185S on the bike. I built the rear swing arm out of the original front fork that came on the ATC 90. It just took a little steel and welding, but it turned out really nice and looks factory stock. I used some flange bearings (or pillow blocks?) and a 3/4" key shaft to build the jack shaft. The jack shaft also works as the swing arm pivot point so I don't need to worry about a chain tensioner. It took a whole lot of welding, cutting, grinding , bondo and paint but the frame and swingarm turned out beautiful. --- Video Contents -- 0:00 - Intro 0:15 - Getting the ATC to Start 1:25 - First Ride in 30 Years 2:11 - Chopping the Frame (SPARKS!) 3:25 - Welding and Modifying the Frame 5:25 - Building the Swingarm 6:33 - Jack Shaft Fabrication 7:49 - Reinforcing the Frame 9:06 - Painting the Frame 9:29 - Preview of Part 2 of the Build All Bigfoot Bikes and Brews content is for entertainment purposes only.
