Basement Waterproofing: What to Expect (Step-by-Step in 4K)
00:00 Arrival & Signs of Moisture Damage 00:31 Drainage System Excavation We prepped the basement area by tarping all storage items to prevent them from getting dusty. We then carefully excavated the basement perimeter with jackhammers and pickaxes to make room for our drainage system and the trench drain near the garage door. We prevent cracks from forming in the floor by using careful excavation methods. We also dug a large hole in the lowest graded part of the basement floor for our sump pump. 01:27 Weep Hole Drilling By drilling weep holes, we invite outside water into the drainage system, relieving the foundation of hydrostatic pressure. This process filled the trenches with lots of dirty water. 02:32 Vapor Barrier Install We covered the stained block walls with our CleanSpace vapor barrier. This vapor barrier will help channel wall leaks down into the subfloor drainage system we installed later. This matting is similar to a pool liner, and is very durable. Firstly, the gravel allows us to grade the drains so they slope towards the sump pit, located in the lowest elevated part of the basement. The gravel also acts as a natural filter for dirt and mud, and grants more space for water to fill. 05:11 Sump Pump Installation/Plumbing We then installed our TripleSafe sump pump, our most reliable sump pump system. It comes with three different pumps, including a battery backed one. This battery will provide power to the system if power outage occurs. This sump pump also has a flush lid, an alarm system, and a check valve. Learn more about our sump pump systems here: https://www.basementdoctorcincy.com/s... 05:55 Drainage System Sealing/Concrete Overlay We then sealed our subfloor drains with a fresh concrete overlay. We start this process by throwing moisture proof tape over the drains to create a moisture barrier between the trench and the concrete above. This tape also helps ensure the concrete we seal overtop doesn't drip down into the system. By adding concrete over the drains, our system stays concealed. We also revealed the trench drain in the garage door, which connects to the WaterGuard drains. This trench drain is also durable enough to be ran over with a car. 06:51 Discharge Line Installation We then configured our discharge line so that water can safely be displaced far away from the homes foundation. When digging for the discharge line to run underground, we make sure to save the grass by carefully digging the lawn. Our IceGuard outlets seen on the side of the home allow water to overflow from the discharge line in case it freezes underground in the winter. Learn more about our IceGuard here: https://www.basementdoctorcincy.com/b... 07:33 System Testing We then turned the pump on to make sure everything was working properly. Our green pop-up outlet seen here hides well in the green grass and can be ran over with a lawnmower. The water from the system flows safely away from the foundation at a downgrade. 08:01 Dehumidifier Installation We finished the project by installing our SaniDry Sedona dehumidification system. This dehumidifier was invented to be the world's most energy efficient dehumidifier for basements and crawl spaces. This system is able to remove up to 100 pints of water out of the air in a day. It also is completely automated with highly-reliable humidity sensors, and is tied into the sump pump. This dehumidifer will help eliminate musty smells and odors. Learn more about it here: https://www.basementdoctorcincy.com/b... 08:43 Final Result The final result is a dry, reliable basement thanks to the hard work of TJ, Leo, and Del.
