Turbo Out Run (Arcade)
Turbo OutRun is a racing game released by SEGA in 1989 for arcades. As the sequel to OutRun, players drive a red Ferrari F40, racing across the United States from New York to Los Angeles. They must pass each section within the time limit while overcoming various obstacles to reach the final destination. The most notable feature of this game is the addition of the turbo system. Players can use a turbo button to temporarily boost their speed, but prolonged use causes the engine to overheat, requiring a cooldown period before it can be used again. Strategically managing the turbo system is crucial for gaining an advantage in the race. The race consists of 16 stages, each with different road environments and weather conditions. Snow, rain, and sandstorms hinder driving, while police cars appear on the road to chase the player, increasing the tension of the race. Additionally, rival cars compete with the player, adding excitement to the gameplay. At the end of each stage, a car upgrade system is available. Players can improve their tires, engine, and turbo system to enhance their vehicle’s performance, maintaining competitiveness in later stages. The arcade version utilized SEGA’s X Board hardware, delivering a sense of speed and smooth sprite animations. The BGM was composed by Hiroshi Kawaguchi, known for creating lively and thrilling music. Turbo OutRun was later ported to various platforms, including the Mega Drive (Genesis), Commodore 64, Amiga, and Atari ST. However, due to hardware limitations, these versions couldn’t fully replicate the graphics and speed of the arcade version. The game influenced later titles such as OutRun 2019 and OutRun 2, solidifying its status as one of SEGA’s iconic racing game series. With its high-speed action, turbo system, and upgrade mechanics, it offered a more dynamic racing experience. 0:00 Game Start 1:23 Gearing Up 1:38 Stage 1 2:18 Stage 2 2:54 Stage 3 3:29 Stage 4 4:03 Checkpoint 4:38 Stage 5 5:24 Stage 6 6:00 Stage 7 6:35 Stage 8 7:15 Checkpoint 7:41 Stage 9 8:24 Stage 10 8:55 Stage 11 9:31 Stage 12 10:03 Checkpoint 10:30 Stage 13 11:11 Stage 14 11:44 Stage 15 12:15 Stage 16 12:46 Goal & Result 14:00 Name Entry - Best Outrunners Are you interested in retrogames?
