Conquering Simonsberg: A Steep Climb to Simonseye
Hey there, adventure seekers! Welcome back to Roots Adventures, where we push our limits and explore the magnificent wonders of nature. In this thrilling episode, we take on the infamous Simonsberg mountain, a towering giant that reaches an impressive 1390 meters above sea level. Join us as we conquer its steep slopes and unravel the breathtaking views it has to offer. Our previous attempts to summit Simonsberg were thwarted by the unpredictable mist and fog that rolled in. Following the strict rules set by the owner, our safety was the top priority, so we made the wise decision to turn back. But this time, luck was on our side. The weather gods smiled upon us, gifting us with clear skies, no clouds, and not even a whisper of wind. It was the perfect opportunity to tackle this monster of a mountain. With renewed determination, my companion Flip and I set off, ready to face the challenges that awaited us. As we began our ascent, we quickly realized that Simonsberg's reputation for being steep was no exaggeration. There were no flat-level parts to catch our breath; it was a continuous uphill battle. But we were prepared for this grueling test of endurance and mental strength. The lush vegetation and protea flower bushes enveloped the slopes, creating a captivating landscape. However, navigating through them proved to be an obstacle in itself. Thick branches reached out like mischievous arms, occasionally striking our faces. I couldn't help but chuckle at the irony of our situation - Simonsberg seemed determined to leave its mark on us, quite literally! It was this sense of humor that kept us going, making every step worthwhile. As we pushed ourselves further, the sheer magnificence of the surroundings started to unveil itself. With every stride, we gained elevation, and the view grew more breathtaking. The rolling hills stretched out in the distance, painting a picturesque scene that seemed straight out of a dream. We couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment and gratitude for being able to witness this natural wonder up close. Reaching the summit was an indescribable feeling. Standing atop Simonsberg, or rather Simonseye as we affectionately renamed it, we felt like conquerors. The elevation may not have been the highest, but the relentless ascent made it an extraordinary achievement. The sweeping vistas that greeted us from every angle made it all the more rewarding.
