Mozart’s Missa Solemnis (Missa Aulica), is his last complete liturgical Mass composed in 1780 for Easter High Mass in the Salzburg Cathedral. The "Benedictus" is unique because it is set as a sombre choral fugue, which is unusual because it has no counterpart in Mozart's Salzburg Masses. It is a forceful and complicated fugue, as the voices seem to tumble over one another, before finally reuniting in the Hosanna.
