The Role of the Health Visitor in the United Kingdom?
Health visitors are unique to the UK and they work with parents and families of under fives. Their role is to advise, guide and support parents through the first five years. There are carry out developmental checks so things can be picked up early if there any concerns. The role is all about health education and prevention of ill-health, early intervention is crucial in children to have the best outcomes. There are 5 contacts in the healthy child programme for a health visitor: 1. Antenatal 2. Newbirth visit 3. 6- 8 week contact 4. 8-12 month contact 5. Pre-school contact Most of the other contacts will be at the child health clinic where you can go to get your baby weighed and see a health visitor at any time that you have a concern,
