Nestled on the edge of England’s largest lake in Cumbria, this lakeside gem is the perfect base for everything the Lake District does best. Known as England’s adventure capital, you’re never short of things to do! Gentle lakeside strolls watched over by graceful swans, boat trips that open up sweeping views, and hikes that reward you with cinematic panoramas and snow-dusted fells. When the weather turns brisk, the town’s cozy pubs and tea rooms become even more inviting - think roaring fires, hearty plates, and warm local hospitality. Meander through quirky shops, sample homemade ice cream by the water, or simply find a bench and slow down as the light changes over the lake. Something else worth mentioning to do whilst visiting is to be sure to jump aboard the Windermere Lake Cruise, which departs from Bowness. We have done this previously and it was fantastic! There’s a reason the Lake District was on our list: it’s equal parts adventure and relaxation.
