It shows what can be gained from this practice and also what problems it can cause. It analyzes the point of view of a technician accustomed to old devices, the so-called VINTAGE, and makes some warnings for those who have not yet had time to think about RECAP in an organized and utilitarian way. In popular jargon, the term RECAP refers to the replacement of a batch of capacitors in a stereo. This replacement may be total or partial, and may cover only the electrolytic capacitors or all capacitors, without exception. Despite being an old and effective practice in certain cases, it is taken as a general remedy for old stereos, in order to improve the sound and eliminate defects. This can indeed happen in certain cases, but it is far from a universal solution. Quite the contrary, a poorly done RECAP or one executed without criteria can simply be a waste of time and an unnecessary expense. Furthermore, it can irreparably damage a device or create defects that did not exist.
