45 The Talmud (Jewish History Lab)

Very brief discussion of the Talmud. Comments turned off because, well, too many people insist on saying nasty, crazy things whenever the word "Talmud" is in the title. Recommended readings: First off, check out the amazing Talmud podcast on www.18Forty.org. Really interesting stuff! Lots of fascinating reading material available on the Talmud. A brief, very readable review of the state of the scholarship is Barry Scott Wimpfheimer, The Talmud: A Biography (https://www.google.com/books/edition/...) In the video I also reference two works I wrote a few years ago, one is a short autobiographical account of how I came to study Talmud, mixed with some background on the document itself: The Sea of Talmud: A Brief and Personal Introduction (https://www.google.com/books/edition/...) and another work is essentially a primer to Talmud study: Reading the Talmud: Developing Independence in Gemara Learning (https://www.google.com/books/edition/.... The Daf Yomi podcast is called Jewish History in Daf Yomi, available as part of the All Daf app or at www.alldaf.org. Interested in studying more deeply with our Membership perks?
