SNOOKER CUES: How to Choose the Right One + Types of Cues / Snooker Tutorial for Beginners
Right on Cue! The choice of snooker cue - is it really game-changing? There is no such thing as a “perfect” snooker cue. Your choice of cue highly depends on what you prefer and how comfortable you feel with it. My best advice is to pay close attention to how you feel while using a certain cue and to choose the one that makes you enjoy playing the most. PRACTICE WITH ME! So you need to keep in mind three things: power, deflection and reaction. The cue that suits you best: helps you to feel the strike of the ball; gets a better reaction out of the cue ball; gives you good cue ball control. The length of your cue and the tip size matter, too. Most professionals prefer cue tips between 9mm to 10mm. Remember, choosing a tip size is a personal preference. There is no wrong or right, so try a standard cue and see how you feel about it. A shorter cue is more compact, but it can make you struggle with your confidence when it comes to long-potting. Longer cues (meaning longer than the standard 57”-58”) tend to be whippier and cause balance issues. There are also soft and hard cues: The soft ones have a lower impact on the grip hand; they provide more spin, more cue ball control, but also less power. A soft cue means sacrificing long potting accuracy. The hard ones transfer less spin on the cue ball, make potting easier, give more power, but less cue ball control. Talking about the weight of you cue – balance is the key! Your cue should be heavy enough so you can play shots without having to put too much effort into them. Otherwise, you will move on shots and lose accuracy. However, don't forget that a heaver cue may be a problem when playing “delicate” shots. And if the cue ball doesn’t go where you aim it at, probably, it is deflection! Titanium ferrules gives you lower deflection, less compensation and make your game much easier. What type of cue did you choose for yourself? Let me know in the comments down below.
