It is said that the Arabs were the ones who introduced this sweet, especially in Spain. This treat can be enjoyed throughout the year, but it is particularly popular during the Christmas season. Today there are many different varieties of the turron. While the traditional Spanish way of mixing the eggs whites is in the skillet with the syrup, I prefer to add the syrup to the egg whites, while mixing them on the stand mixer. It is said that you can create your own nougat or turron with a variety of nuts. I like almonds and pistachios, and I thought that this was a very good combination.
