Western Hooded Pitta Found! | Rare Birding Adventure in Bibhutibhusan Wildlife Sanctuary

On 24th May 2026, we headed to Bibhutibhusan Wildlife Sanctuary (Parmadan Forest), West Bengal, with one goal in mind—to find the elusive Western Hooded Pitta. After Entering we got sighting of the Grey-headed Fish Eagle and while we were shooting it, we heard two calls. Not only did we sight this stunning and highly sought-after bird, but we were fortunate enough to encounter it four different times during our visit. Watching the Western Hooded Pitta emerge from the forest undergrowth was truly a memorable birding experience. The day had many more surprises in store. We also recorded sightings of: • Grey-headed Fish Eagle • Crested Serpent Eagle • Greater Flameback • And several other birds of the sanctuary.
