The tram handles most of the elevation, but the hike from Mountain Station to the 10,834-foot summit is still a solid day. You'll need a free day-use permit from the ranger station at Long Valley before you start. The route climbs through pine forest to Round Valley, then pushes up to Wellman Divide and the final summit ridge. Best hiked late spring through fall when the trail is snow-free. This is high-elevation hiking with exposed sections and weather that changes fast. --- Disclaimer: Some of these links are affiliate links where I'll earn a small commission if you make a purchase at no additional cost to you.
