The Prefix con-, or com-, is expressed by a dot, written first at the beginning of an outline, as shown. In words beginning with the con- or com- dot, the first vowel after the prefix determines the position of the outline. 2. Con-, com-, cum- or cog-, in the middle of a word or phrase, is expressed by writing two strokes close to each other. 3. Accom- or accommo- is expressed by the stroke k , either joined or disjoined (always in the first position) 4. Intro- is expressed by doubling stroke of n (ntr) (always in the third position). 5. Magna - , magni- or magne- is expressed by disjoined m (always in the first position). 6. self- is expressed by a disjoined s circle, and self-con- is represented by writing the s circle in the place of the con- dot. 7. Trans- may be contracted in most words by omitting the n. 8. In- before str, skr, h (up) is expressed by a small hook, written in the same direction as the circle. 9. Negative words - when the prefix in- means not, it is always expressed by the stroke n. Other negative words are distinguished from the positive by repeating the first consonant. The long vowels (thick dot and thick dash) can be remembered by repeating the sentence "Pa may we all go too?" i.e word pa giving sound ah, may - a, we - e, all - aw, go - o, too - oo. The short vowels (light dot and light dash) can be remembered by repeating the sentence "That pen is not much good". i.e word that giving sound a, pen - e, is - i, not - o, much - u, good - oo. Always practice Pitman Shorthand with pencil and make the thin strokes, light vowel signs LIGHT and thick strokes, dark vowel signs DARK. Pitman Shorthand language increases the speed, fluency in writing.
