Vancouver felt different today. Soccer fans filled Granville Street, bars came alive, police managed the crowds, and for one night BC Place became the centre of the city. This episode follows the atmosphere around Vancouver’s first FIFA World Cup 2026 match: Australia vs Türkiye. I visit the TSN and CTV broadcast studio at Jack Poole Plaza, walk through downtown, see the fan celebrations on Granville Street, and head toward BC Place as the stadium lights come on. More than 52,000 fans filled the stadium, but the rest of downtown felt surprisingly calm. With road closures and less car traffic, Vancouver prepared for chaos and somehow ended up with a party that still had room to breathe.
