On July 26, 1983, Czechoslovakian athlete Jarmila Kratochvílová set the women's 800m world record, running 1:53.28 at the Olympic Stadium in Munich, Germany. This historic mark remains the longest-standing individual world record in athletics. She ran a highly balanced, negative-split race with lap times of roughly 56.82 seconds for the first 400 meters and 56.46 seconds for the second 400 meters. Jarmila Kratochvílová’s drug allegations stem from her remarkably fast times, rapid physical improvements, and an atypical, highly muscular physique.
