Niskopodłogowe, klimatyzowane tramwaje wyprodukowano w latach 1998 - 2004. Mają pięć członów, 55 miejsc siedzących i 24,4 metra długości. Pojazdy zakupiły Helsinki ale zostały wycofane z ruchu w 2018 roku, bo ich eksploatacja okazała się kłopotliwa. W Łodzi tramwaje zyskały dobrą opinię motorniczych i pasażerów. Testy miały trwać 8 miesięcy. Po pomyślnym zakończeniu testów miasto planowało zakup 40 takich tramwajów. W Helsinkach tramwaje nie sprawdziły się ze względu na sztywne wózki w ciasnych łukach oraz pękające wózki i pudła tramwajów. Firma, która wypożyczała Variotramy na testy po trzech miesiącach zabrała tramwaje na przegląd okresowy. Po przeglądzie nie odesłała już tramwajów na kontynuację testów. Zasugerowała by podjąć decyzję o zakupie tramwajów wcześniej, czyli przed upływem 8 miesięcy. Z uwagi na brak możliwości przeprowadzenia pełnych testów miasto zrezygnowało kupna tramwajów.
