I'm Reading The Iliad So You Don't Have To (Nolan finally got me) | Books 1-4

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey isn't out yet and he's already got me reading 2,700 year old Greek epics. So here we are. Movie Book Club starts now. I'm reading The Iliad week by week in prep for Nolan's film, and Books 1–4 already hit harder than I expected. Emily Wilson's translation goes crazy, Homer might not have actually been a real person, and somehow a war that started over a stolen wife manages to feel more emotionally complex than most modern blockbusters. We're talking Achilles throwing the biggest tantrum in literary history, Agamemnon being insufferable, Paris being a certified coward, and the gods treating humans like they're playing a video game. Also Helen of Troy — whose side is she actually on? Hold me accountable to keep this pace and I'll hold you accountable to keep reading with me.
