Gobernador de Boyacá responde a De La Espriella: "Ni haciendo campaña ni comprando votos"
The governor of Boyacá, Carlos Amaya, responded to the serious accusations made by candidate Abelardo De La Espriella, who accused him of orchestrating a network of pressure on officials and mayors to influence Boyacá voters in favor of Iván Cepeda. On the radio program "Mañanas Blu" with Néstor Morales, the governor denied the allegations linking him to vote-buying or interference in the current election. "Neither by campaigning for him nor by buying votes, as he claims. We have never bought votes, nor will we ever. We believe that goes against people's dignity," Amaya stated, while also characterizing the accusations as part of an opposition strategy lacking any evidentiary basis. Regarding questions about his constant presence in the department's municipalities, Amaya clarified that his administrative work has not stopped. According to the governor, his tour of Boyacá's 123 municipalities is part of an institutional work schedule he has maintained since the beginning of his administration. "What I'm doing is working in my municipalities, visiting them. Perhaps that's why some people have been upset; they'd prefer I didn't travel around the department. We're working as we always have," he emphasized. The governor stressed that, despite being in the period of the Electoral Guarantees Law, his activities inaugurating public works and delivering social programs are strictly institutional and do not violate current electoral regulations. He assured that at these events, the removal of any spokesperson or symbol of candidates is explicitly requested, seeking to maintain the neutrality of the public space. Polarization and the Call for Calm The governor of Boyacá expressed his deep concern about the increase in aggression in local public debate. According to Amaya, polarization has permeated community dynamics, to the point of fracturing neighborly relations and community collaboration processes. "The campaign is getting more aggressive every day, the polarization here is growing daily, with fights breaking out between families, neighbors, and communities. Community gatherings have ceased to be gatherings and have become fights over presidential campaigns," the governor lamented. Now radio isn't just heard, it's seen! Given this situation, he made a strong appeal for respect for the plurality of thought and for citizens to exercise their right to vote freely and without coercion. Likewise, the governor reiterated that he will not take sides in the race, recalling that if his intention were to participate in politics, he would have resigned from his position in a timely manner to assume a candidacy. Regarding the possibility of being investigated for De la Espriella's accusations, Amaya expressed his full cooperation with the competent authorities. "I would prefer that he file the complaints with the Colombian justice system. I have nothing to hide; my work is transparent, and all my statements are public. I am absolutely calm because I am certain that there is no evidence of my involvement in politics," he concluded.
