EURYTHMICS "Sensing The Storm" (Live in Sweden 1986) FULL ALBUM
This is a concert released on a double bootleg vinyl album of Eurythmics during their longest ever world tour, supporting the "Revenge" album. Dave & Annie had evolved- not just from their earlier band incarnations of The Catch and The Tourists, but each Eurythmics released matured and changed from it's predecessor. There wasn't much more room to explore in the world of synth-oriented Euro-pop, so naturally the only way to go was to reinvent themselves into a stadium rock band! Even the way they wrote and recorded the "Revenge" album was with this goal in mind: conquer America with old fashioned rock & roll seasoned with touches of their previous personas bubbling up from underneath every so often. For the first time, they recorded much of the album live in studio with their touring band, and only added occasional overdubs in post-production. This manner of recording had them better prepared for touring than they had ever been, and the shows reflected that. This was a well-oiled machine where each musician on stage knew their place inside and out and it all came together as a celebration. Earlier tours depended on the fresh, raw energy of a new band to carry the show- with Dave & Annie bringing the "experienced pro" aspects. They were notorious for switching out musicians- sometimes mid-tour because they felt it was important to have that brand new energy. But this tour was undertaken with a group of musicians who had put their talents to use for the previous year making the album and bonding with Dave & Annie and came across more as equals rather than support on stage. Despite the absence of all the computers and sequencers on stage, the live band tackled some of the most electronic songs in Eurythmics' back catalog- songs like "Sex Crime" and "Here Come The Rain Again" were stripped of all their digital backdrops and reinterpreted into something the Rolling Stones or U2 might have been envious of. Even signature tune "Sweet Dreams" has been given new life with guitars adding to the melody played on the keyboards. Although this tour was captured on film for a theatrical release as well as the home video market, it suffered from a great deal of post-production special effects and audio overdubs. The REAL energy of this tour is much better represented HERE, I feel, having attended some of the dates myself and comparing those memories to that video. (And this record)
