Today, we're examining a little closer some elements that might have been combined to create that lush distorted endless horizon I've been dreaming with since I was a kid. The Alesis Midiverb series of reverbs was released in the late 80's, and it's been widely reported that MBV's guitarists Kevin Shields and Bilinda Butcher have used the Midiverb II as some kind of "secret weapon" (as quoted by Kevin himself) to achieve their reverse and gated reverb sounds. I've found sources - yet, unreliable - that the Midiverb iii was used to tour Loveless in the early 90's. It's regarded that these rack units were a cheap source of reverb effects when compared to other units available at the time, like the 'higher end' Yamaha FX series. I got my hands on an Alesis Midiverb III recently, and Alesis has stated that the reverse and gated algorithms used for the Midiverb family are the same, except that the decay is customisable on the Midiverb 3 whereas is preseted on the Midiverb 2. The Midiverb 4, on the other hand, has different newer algorithms with better DSP technology from the late 90's. Today we're playing the midiverb III unit with Bilinda's distortion pedal of choice, the Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal. This pedal has been Bilinda's go to distortion box to recreate the shoegaze sounds heard on the records of MBV (I have a whole video on this if you want to check it out: • The Boss HM-2 and Bilinda Butcher || 🇯🇵 x ... ) and I thought it'd be nice to try and mix these 2 together to see if it's possible to get that classic shoegaze sound from the early 90's! I can't express how much I loved this combo enough (: it's truly magic. How do you like it? Comment below if you'd use this very powerful combo yourself👇 Thanks for watching! 🧶 MBV Tone Chase: • MVB Tone Chase 🧶 ⚠️ Do not connect the Midiverb and any guitar pedal without using a reamp box! Otherwise you might harm your gear. 💡 You can load Impulse Responses of these Alesis units on convolution reverb plugins in your DAW, if you'd like to try out their sound. 💽 Here's a great free convolution reverb plugin: https://plugins4free.com/plugin/2987/ ☔️ Alesis Midiverb II Impulse Responses: https://seaweedfactory.blogspot.com/2... ⏭️ SKIP TO: No time to watch the whole video? You weirdo hipster 🎸 I'm Victor Budin ( / vibudin_ - Instagram), a musician from Brazil. The most notable of my music projects is my power trio band Supernova Andromeda ( / a_supernovaa - Instagram) - my shoegaze/indie/alt rock band where I explore shimmery and fuzzy sounds from the 90's to produce my own music. I have two other projects, Magna Carta cover band, witch covers rock from all ages in an alternative rock way; and Casus Belli, witch hangs around Stoner/Doom metal. If you'd like to check out one of the bands and follow them on social media, it'll help me out a lot! I'm a big fan of the underground scene from Brazil and the world, and I want to show a bit of this universe here to you - Besides, I love talking about these genres that are so important to me since I grew up listening to them: Indie, shoegaze and Alt rock. I love exploring all kinds of gear available to create alternative music. Thanks for watching! 👻 Emojis are tacky? 👻👻👻
