This webinar focuses on using microbenchmarks and profiling as a way to guide performance optimization on AMD CDNA™ 1 and CDNA 2 GPUs. Examine a case study of a real-world application in its transition to AMD GPUs using HIP, and learn how to identify an application as compute bound or memory and how to set performance expectations through hotspot and events profiling with rocprof. Additional topics covered include occupancy on AMD GPUs, including a method for estimating theoretical occupancy based on register and LDS usage. In the context of the case study, this webinar shows how improving occupancy can improve application performance on AMD GPUs, particularly when an application is memory bound and exhibits a low cache hit ratio.
