Some Thoughts on the Building of Vanguard Models' Kit of HMS Speedy
Vanguard Models specialises in producing high quality kits of 18th Century warships, mainly of frigate size and below at 1:64. Ian McLaughlan describes in an "over the shoulder" session, the building process for this small brig rigged sloop of war, which came to fame under the captaincy of Lord Thomas Cochran, when she captured a Spanish Frigate of about three times her force in the Mediterranean in 1801. Some small improvements were made to the kit, but the accuracy of the laser cut components made construction straight forward. The kit came with an excellent instruction booklet to guide the builder through each phase of the process. This presentation was given to the Society of Model Shipwrights at their Zoom meeting in June 2025.
