Anti-Drug Operation Capo dei Capi 2. The overnight raid in Agrigento and Palermo resulted in the execution of 30 precautionary custody orders issued by the investigating judge of the Agrigento Prosecutor's Office. Twelve people were arrested and taken to prison, five were placed under house arrest, three were ordered to remain in their homes, and ten were required to sign in. Three individuals are currently wanted. The Carabinieri operation dismantled a drug trafficking organization between the regional capital, the city where the drugs were supplied, and Agrigento. The areas of the city most involved in drug trafficking were the Esseneto neighborhood and the seaside village of San Leone. Those arrested are well-known to law enforcement; in fact, the investigation stems from a previous operation concluded in December 2008, which led to the execution of 27 precautionary measures for the same crimes. Thanks to wiretaps and traditional investigative activities, three years later, the military has once again cracked down on the Agrigento drug market, with hashish, marijuana, and cocaine being the most commonly used substances. Hundreds of soldiers from the Agrigento, Canicattì, Cammarata, Licata, Sciacca, and Palermo Piazza Verdi companies, the Agrigento operations unit, two canine units from the Palermo Villagrazia Carabinieri unit, and a helicopter from the 9th Carabinieri unit from Palermo Boccadifalco, were involved in the operation. Let's take a closer look at those arrested. The following men, Mohamed Belhaj, 23, and Mohammed Mekkaoui, 53, are held in Petrusa prison. The following men, Alfonso Craparo, 24, Angelo Cammilleri, 28, Salvatore Gallo, 23, Marco Inguanta, 31, Salvatore Pitrone, 27, Francesco Prinzivalli, 23, and Alessandro Trupia, 22, are also arrested. Three individuals were ordered to remain in the city of Agrigento by the investigating judge, including 27-year-old Gambino Calogero, 37-year-old Abdelaziz Mahfoudhi from Tunisia, and 23-year-old Salvatore Vizzini. Maurizio Craparo, Vito Giuca, Harabi Nizhar, Angelo Infantino, Mario Lauricella, Salvatore Lentini, Salvatore Lombardo, Marco Passarello, Nacer Snidi, and Angelo Volpe. The Carabinieri have failed to execute the warrant because 24-year-old Giuseppe Sottile, from Agrigento, is unaccounted for and is currently being sought. A prison warrant has been issued for him. 32-year-old Giancarlo Natalello and 24-year-old Giuseppe Volpe, both from Agrigento, must be placed under house arrest. Details of the operation were presented today at the Agrigento Public Prosecutor's Office by Deputy Prosecutor Ignazio Fonzo, the Provincial Commander of the Agrigento Carabinieri, Colonel Mario Di Iulio, and the Commander of the Agrigento Carabinieri Company, Captain Giuseppe Asti. For Colonel Mario Di Iulio, this could likely be his last operation in Agrigento, as he is about to be transferred to Palermo.
