Indians have a Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) limit of $250,000 per fiscal year, which means the maximum amount of money one can send overseas for various purposes, including education fees, travel and investments. One of the ways to invest internationally is through mutual funds using Fund of Funds (FoFs), but they have a industry-wide cap of $7 billion. Many AMCs have exhausted this threshold, mandated by SEBI, forcing them halt fresh subscriptions and lump sum investments into global funds. Investing in global funds via overseas ETF funds also have their limits due to the overall industry-wide cap of $1 billion. The other feasible options to invest in international funds include investing directly into US stocks via apps and investing through GIFT City funds.
