Native Cutthroat Trout Sanctuary | Colorado Alpine Fly Fishing

The bridge to the trailhead was in disrepair which did not allow automobile traffic. My destination lake did not hold any trout. But, you have to role with the punches in the Colorado backcountry and keep up hope that things might break your way with a little persistence. Instead of giving up, I took my mountain bike off of the rack and made it to the trailhead. After the disappointing realization that the lake might be sterile, I saw a few risers in an adjacent pond. My hope rose like the native cutthroat trout sipping mayflies off of the surface of the tiny pond. What started as a tough day became a day I will not soon forget in a cutthroat trout sanctuary that seemingly touched the sky.
