The bonus game, Ink’s Story, takes place one week before Evangeline arrives in Hochwald — and I was certain I’d sweep through it in 30 minutes. Instead, the puzzles once again reduced my IQ to approximately four. Classic Artifex Mundi behavior. Dr. Ambrose Ink arrives in Hochwald to gather proof of the unnatural earthquakes shaking the region. Unfortunately, he’s immediately stalked by a young girl who looks like she stepped straight out of The Shining. Personally, I’m convinced she’s actually a very small adult working undercover to eliminate spies. As if that weren’t unsettling enough, Dr. Ink is nearly arrested and executed by one of General Barber’s soldiers before he can deliver the stone apple to Saint Issac. Thankfully, the soldier has a conscience, recognizes that Dr. Ink is a good man, and lets him finish his work in the church. With the help of minigames, hidden‑object scenes, and frantic item assembly, Dr. Ink (or rather, I) completes the final puzzle that opens the passage to the underground — and straight into the mystery of the clockwork.
