Into the Woods and Down to the Sea: A Clovelly Walk

Join us as we take a walking from Bucks Cross to the coastal village of Clovelly! We start at the North Devon coast, and explore the south west coast path, highlighting the beauty of the Devon coast. We started at Bucks Cross, taking a moment to pop into the local Post Office and also to explore St Anne’s Church, a peaceful stop before venturing towards the South West Coast Path. We joined the path just past Bucks Mills. Navigating with Paddy Dillon’s map (book - link below). We weaved through landscapes shaped by centuries of human and natural forces, heading for the Clovelly Visitor Centre. The trail led us through ancient woodland—Buck’s Wood, Keivill’s Wood, and Barton Wood—where towering trees enclosed us in a tunnel of shifting light and shadow. As the path unfolded, we arrived at The Hobby Drive, a 19th-century woodland carriageway designed to provide a scenic approach into Clovelly. The grandeur of its towering trees and winding route makes it a captivating contrast to the rugged coast. The journey ended at Clovelly Visitor Centre, where we put our feet up and enjoyed a well-earned cup of tea—soya milk, of course—reflecting on the day’s adventure through history, nature, and breathtaking landscapes.
