We Tried the Cheapest Cabin on a Holland America Norwegian Fjords Cruise

Holland America inside cabin: is the cheapest cabin on a cruise worth it, or a false economy? We booked exactly that, an inside cabin with no window on a seven-night Holland America cruise through the Norwegian fjords, and it still cost £1,869 each. This is our honest review, and whether we regret it. For our first ever inside cabin, we went all the way to the bottom: cabin 1052, deck 1, no window, no natural light, no view. Holland America is a premium cruise line, and this was still the price of a balcony on most others. This is what a week in the cheapest cabin on a premium ship is actually like, and whether going without a window makes sense on a cruise where the scenery is the whole point. We're Rick and Adam, The Floating Nomads. We live aboard our narrowboat Serenissima and slow travel the rest of the world. We sailed to Norway from Rotterdam, no flights, and this is the first of two films from the fjords. What we cover in this one: The cheapest cabin on the ship: what £1,869 each actually gets you, the inside cabin no one else seems to review honestly, and the one thing about it we couldn't get past. The cheapest cabin on the ship: what £1,869 each actually gets you, the inside cabin no one else seems to review honestly, and the one thing about it we couldn't get past. Life on MS Rotterdam: why this is the smartest ship we've sailed in sixteen cruises, the free hot room-service breakfast almost no cruise line offers any more, and the laundry, the umbrellas and the little touches that surprised us. The Music Walk: the best live music we've ever heard at sea, from the Rolling Stone Rock Room to a ten-piece big band at B.B. King's, and why Holland America does entertainment better than anyone. Formal night: how strict a premium line really is about the dress code, and whether Rick got away with trainers. Ålesund, Norway: the town rebuilt entirely in one Art Nouveau style after a fire destroyed it in 1904, and why it's worth getting off the ship for. Our honest verdict: whether we'd sail Holland America again, whether we'd ever book an inside cabin again, and the specific reason a fjords cruise changes the answer. This is our sixteenth cruise and the first time we've done it in the cheapest cabin on board. If you're researching a Holland America inside cabin, whether the cheapest cabin on a cruise is worth it, an MS Rotterdam review, or a Norwegian fjords cruise, this is an honest account from two people who booked the cheapest cabin on board and lived in it for a week. Next week: part two, whether a cruise is really the best way to see the Norwegian fjords. Want the bits that didn't make the main film?
