Sugarcane Whip Smut A fungal disease affecting sugarcane crops, it is one of the most serious diseases impacting sugarcane production. *Symptoms of Infection* 1- The initial symptoms of the disease appear on young sugarcane plants, where stunted growth and overcrowding of leaves on the stem are observed. 2- The growing tip of the plant swells and elongates, resembling a whip, and is black in color, consisting of fungal spores. 3- The whip is unbranched but coils upon itself in a spiral-like fashion. *Control* 1- Uproot infected plants after bagging and burn them outside the field. 2- Do not use seed from a field where infection has appeared. 3- Treat seed with fungicides before planting. 4- Do not leave old ratoons (fifth or later) in the sugarcane field. 5- Plant disease-resistant varieties. 6- In infected fields where the infection rate exceeds 5%, Plow the entire field and flood the land with water for 15 days. Therefore, all farmers and engineers working on sugarcane crop inspection must pay close attention to inspection and surveying to detect this disease early, before the appearance of the flagellum that carries the fungal spores.
