It is bounded superiorly by the biceps femoris (laterally) ๐ช and semitendinosus and semimembranosus (medially) ๐, and inferiorly by the medial and lateral heads of the gastrocnemius muscle ๐งถ. The floor of the fossa is formed by the popliteal surface of the femur, posterior knee capsule, and the popliteus muscle, while the roof is formed by skin and deep fascia. The key contents arranged from superficial to deep (from posterior to anterior) can be remembered using the mnemonic โTibial โ Vein โ Artery โ Nerveโ (TVAN) ๐: ๐น Tibial nerve (most superficial) โก โ Supplies most of the posterior leg muscles and gives off branches like the sural nerve. ๐น Popliteal vein ๐ โ Receives the small saphenous vein and lies intermediate. ๐น Popliteal artery โค๏ธ โ Deepest and most critical structure; continues as the anterior and posterior tibial arteries below the knee. ๐น Also includes lymph nodes ๐ฆ , fat ๐ง, and genicular branches. Clinically, this area is vital because aneurysms, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) ๐ฅ, and cysts (like Baker's cyst) commonly present here. A detailed understanding of the popliteal fossa is essential for safe surgical approaches, trauma assessments, and peripheral nerve examinations ๐ฉบโจ. #PoplitealFossa ๐ฆต #LowerLimbAnatomy ๐ #TibialNerve โก #PoplitealArtery ๐ #PoplitealVein โค๏ธ #KneeAnatomy #PosteriorKnee ๐ #AnatomyLecture #BicepsFemoris ๐ช #Semimembranosus ๐ #Gastrocnemius #TVANMnemonic ๐ #NEETPG2025 #USMLEStep1 #FMGEReady #MBBSNotes #StudySmart ๐ง #SurgicalAnatomy #YouTubeAnatomy #ClinicalAnatomy ๐ฉบ #OrthopedicEssentials #BakersCyst #DVTAlert ๐ฅ
