Partnership Meeting Between Edema Support Foundation Uganda and Mother of Mercy Hospital Kyengera

representatives of Edema Support Foundation Uganda (ESFU) meet with the administration of Mother of Mercy Hospital Kyengera to discuss a potential partnership aimed at improving care, treatment, and support for people living with lymphedema and recurrent cellulitis (Etalo). The meeting was presented by: 👨‍⚕️ Mr. Isimbwa Mugisha Ivan – Executive Director, Edema Support Foundation Uganda 👩‍⚕️ Semakula Elijah Enock – Medical Assistant Director, Edema Support Foundation Uganda The discussion focused on future collaboration in: ✅ Lymphedema medical outreaches ✅ Patient treatment and management ✅ Self-care education and empowerment ✅ Healthcare worker training ✅ Community awareness and stigma reduction ✅ Support for vulnerable patients affected by lymphedema and recurrent cellulitis Many people in Uganda continue to believe that chronic swelling and Etalo are caused by witchcraft. Through advocacy, education, and partnerships, ESFU is working to change this narrative by promoting the understanding that these are medical conditions that can be treated and managed effectively. "Etalo si ddogo — bulwadde era busobola okufunirwa obujjanjabi." (Etalo is not witchcraft — it is a disease, and treatment is available.)
