Trumpet Mouthpieces - Shaping Tone & Enhancing Range
Items For Sale: https://www.trumpetherald.com/marketp... My thoughts on how tone, volume and range can be shaped and enhanced with different trumpet mouthpieces. 6 mouthpieces are used for example; they're posted below and listed in the order they were played in the video. See below for details... V V V V V 1. ACB Lead. Trent Austin's great mouthpiece for lead playing. A nice average V cup used here with a tight backbore - I often use this piece for general playing purposes. 2. Yamaha Custom 11B4-GP. A very nice bowl-shaped piece by Yamaha, excellent gold plating on the rim and cup. A very nice, classic, bright sound. 3. ACB TA-TF. Another great piece by Trent Austin, this is his Trumpet-Flugel piece. A deep V with a fairly large throat (#24 drill?) this gives a very nice, mellow sound but still enables good range. 4. Flip Oakes X (Xtreme) mouthpiece. A deep cup with a large throat (#11 drill) that yields large volume and a nice dark tone. 5. Marcinkiewicz 15. A great mouthpiece by Joe Marcinkiewicz; shallower, brighter... A fun piece for upper register play and for a nice cutting sound in general. 6. Marckinkiewicz Shew 1, a great lead piece. Altered by Kevin Tinker to simulate a Monette piece; the throat was opened, the overall length shortened and the stem resized to fit properly. Very fun piece to play. Kevin Tinker can be contacted at his Facebook page; / tinkertrumpets Note: Most advanced trumpeters have a certain 'sound' that they want to produce and can do this on different instruments and with different mouthpieces. Within this sound concept, however, certain alterations can be achieved. Some very advanced trumpeters can alter tone drastically with the same mouthpiece, but most find it easier to achieve extremes with equipment change... And that's why I've addressed these concerns with this video. Thanks for joining in - hope you enjoy the vid and my thoughts on trumpet mouthpieces. Feel free to contribute! Continued best wishes, Jonathan
