Embraer Defense and Security has handed over the last upgraded F-5EM Tiger II fighter aircraft to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) at Santa Cruz Air Force Base in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Although first delivered in 1975, the upgraded jet will be tasked with defending Brazilian airspace at least until the air force's Saab F-39 Gripen multirole fighter jet gains full operational capability, which is currently scheduled to occur in 2025.
