The Golden Rule I get asked to sell boats on brokerage all the time, and I say no more often than I say yes. The reason is, that I have a very simple golden rule when it comes to advertising boats for sale. The Golden Rule, as I was taught in primary school, is to ‘treat other’s as you would like to be treated yourself’. I reckon it’s a pretty good rule to live by and I decided to adapt it to my profession. My take on it, when it comes to deciding on whether to sell a particular boat or not, is this… I ask myself ‘Would I buy this boat?’ That’s it. One very simple question. If the answer is yes, then you will see that boat on these pages. If the answer is no, then you won’t. You see, a few years ago, when I was blindly copying what every other boat broker does, I was having all sorts of internal moral dilemmas when I was asked to sell dodgy boats; and indeed I made the mistake of getting involved with some of them. Maybe the owner was I really nice guy, or perhaps he had a particularly compelling hard luck story, or maybe he was a past customer, or I was friendly with his brother, or whatever… I would sometimes go against my better judgement and list a boat for sale that I personally wouldn’t touch with a barge pole. Nine times out of ten, those boats never sold anyway, and the aggravation involved when trying to get a deal done on the one-out-of-ten was the type of thing that made you question whether there is a God! No. It had to stop. Almost 3 years ago now I made the decision to apply my Golden Rule to every boat I sell. And I haven’t looked back since. It has transformed my life, made my work (which is also my passion) so much more enjoyable, and also means that my interactions with buyers are a pleasure. I will not list a boat on this website unless I have crawled all over, looked in every nook and cranny, ran the engine, put the boat through it’s paces in the water, and after all that, decided that I would be happy to buy it and take my family to sea in it. I don’t know another boat broker in Europe that applies the same standard as this. But, having seen the effect that it’s had on my business, my life, and the enjoyment of my customers, there’s no way I’m wavering again. So, with that in mind, here’s the reasons that I would buy this Glastron GS 279 Diesel Sports Cruiser… It’s Diesel; so fuel economy and reliability are excellent, and with the supercharged and turbocharged Volvo Penta KAD 32 motor there’s really punchy power delivery for getting up on the plane quickly and running a decent speeds underway. It’s got it’s own trailer included in the sale for launching, recovering, storage and transport. It’s CE category B rated and has a 20 degree transom deadrise, which is fairly unusual in an American Sportcruiser, and means she cuts through coastal chop very well with a smooth ride. The owner’s tale of his trouble free trip from North Wales to Belfast lough is testament to that! It’s already equipped with everything you’d need in a weekend cruiser. It has a Garmin Chartplotter, DSC VHF Radio, Anchor Windlass, Trim Tabs, Camper Covers, Hot and Cold Water, Heads with macerator etc. etc. It has a good solid history, fully documented, with only 2 owners from new, only 250 hours on the engine, CE certified, VAT paid, very well looked after, and all the paperwork to prove it.
