LA AFICIÓN CUMPLE, EL EQUIPO NO // OnTour Gijón

2,014 kilometers round trip. More than 30 hours on the road. Money, time, hope… only to find a team that, when they needed to step up the most, vanished. The match against Sporting wasn't "just another game." Direct promotion was already hanging by a thread, yes, but there was still so much at stake: finishing as high up the table as possible for the playoffs, securing the second leg at home, and turning the stadium into a cauldron for any opponent. Even so, the team came out without intensity, without hunger, and without that feeling that their entire season was on the line. While we were shouting ourselves hoarse from the stands, they seemed to be strolling around the pitch. The 3-1 defeat hurts, but the performance hurts even more, because fans can accept losing, but what they can't accept is seeing a lack of competitiveness when it's time to take the next step. And it's a shame, because the trip to Gijón was spectacular: a great city, a great atmosphere, wonderful people, and rival fans who treated us incredibly well. But from a footballing perspective, the match leaves many doubts. Now we have to focus on the playoffs, because direct promotion is already out of reach. But if this team wants to get promoted, it has to understand something very simple: in June, it's not the team that plays the best that gets promoted, it's the team that competes the most.
