Our first stop is one of Herat’s best-known spots for Qabeli Palaw, where fragrant rice, tender meat, raisins, carrots, beans, fresh Afghan bread, and mint doogh come together in one of Afghanistan’s most iconic meals. Next, we head to Emirate Restaurant in Shahr-e-Naw to try their famous chicken and lamb karahi. Cooked fresh with tomatoes, garlic, green chilies, and rich spices, both karahis are served with Afghan bread and their delicious garlic yogurt, making every bite full of bold Afghan flavor. To finish the tour, we visit Mamazaher to try Shoor Nokhod, one of Herat’s most popular street foods. Warm chickpeas are mixed with vinegar, mint, pickles, chutneys, and optional spicy sauce, creating a simple but incredibly flavorful local snack loved by people across the city.
