When it rains, the water cycle kicks in, hydrating rice paddies and forests and creating a natural ecosystem. Water flowing into the rice paddies to nourish the rice plants may be accompanied by pesky pests, and disturbing birds can become the rice plants' problem solvers. The moisture from rain supports the survival of life, from tiny insects to delicate mountaintop ferns, flying termites, wild mushrooms, and many other birds and animals, allowing them to fulfill their role as part of nature.
