Whether it’s turning down a second ice cream, dragging ourselves to complete workout of the day or forgoing another round of cocktails. Are you wondering why some days you can accomplish so much, while other days you feel like you just can't find the energy. The answer is because willpower is not a skill, it is actually more like muscle. Just as muscles are strengthened by regular exercise, regularly exerting self-control (your willpower) may improve willpower strength over time. At the same time as we compare willpower to a muscle, it can becomes fatigued with overuse. Repeatedly resisting temptation drains your ability to withstand future impulses! This few questions will help you to begin your personal transformation and make sure that you are on top of your self-control, willpower and decision making muscle! Answer to this questions on a scale 1-100 %, than take your time how could you improve in each of the areas. 1. Can you keep your cool during an argument? 2. Do you stick to your to-do list? 3. Can you stick to a healthy nutrition diet for a long period of time? 4. When necessary, are you able to push past your comfort zone despite your fears and discomfort? 5. Do you keep your promises? 6. Overall, do you choose better long-term results over immediate gratification. Ways to maintain and strengthen your willpower! 1. Maintaining steady blood-glucose levels, such as by eating regular healthy meals may help prevent the effects of willpower depletion. Study shows that willpower depletion is tied to glucose levels. 2. Being a part of team of like minded people! With the right motivation and support you may be able to persevere even when your willpower strength has been depleted. 3. Focus on a single goal (healthy habit) at a time rather than attacking a list of multiple resolutions at once. Because being depleted in one area can reduce willpower in other spheres. 4. Good mood and positive thinking can overcome some of the willpower-depletion. Once you genuinely believe you can do it (positive thinking) then start taking massive positive action. 5. Avoiding temptation and planning ahead is one effective tactic for maintaining self-control (willpower) 6. Bring your mind to the present and do not build up a poor experience / result in your head! 7. Do not overload your future self with unrealistic expectations! Be realistic about your expectations, results and abilities. 8. Chunking! Sometimes we don’t know where to begin. Practice shifting your focus from larger goal, into smaller chunks!
